The University of Washington School of Medicine (UWSOM) is a public medical school located in Seattle, Washington, and is affiliated with the University of Washington. UWSOM is the first public medical school in the states of Washington, Wyoming, Alaska, Montana, and Idaho. The school maintains a network of teaching facilities in more than 100 towns and cities across the five-state region. As part of this partnership, medical students from Alaska, Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming spend their first years at state universities in their home states. In addition, forty first-year students from Washington are based in Spokane, Washington.

Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences (PNWU) is a private, non-profit medical school for osteopathic medicine located in Yakima, Washington, United States. Founded in 2005, the university's inaugural program was the first new medical school to open in the Pacific Northwest in sixty years. PNWU grants the Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree, and graduated its first class of physicians in May 2012.The Pacific Northwest University of Health Sciences College of Osteopathic Medicine is fully accredited by the American Osteopathic Association's Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation.
